Army Air Force C-3 — Current Status

  • Wash, scrub, wash, scrub
  • Got the turbine cleaned, lubricated, and working.
  • Stripped the green & grey paint scheme – it was all cracked – that was a messy job.
  • Rebuilt the turning motor.  It works!
  • Restored Telegon oscillator.
  • Covered fatigue-cracked vertical speed transmitter canister with copper.
  • Cleaned and lubricated all three Telegon transmitters.
  • Found elusive altitude vacuum leak.
  • Replaced fabric throughout trainer.
  • A lot of instrument troubleshooting

The trainer is 100% working (on most days).  It is flying great.  All front-panel instruments and repeater instruments are functioning properly.  The instructor can communicate with the pilot via the radio, as the crab plots the course on the desk’s map.  Yea!
