Hood

The hood on our Esp had been attacked by mice. It was stored in a barn for many years.

Esp hood needed some TLC.

We removed the covering to expose damaged outside frame and stringers.

Stringer damage

The stringers are constructed of laminated 1/8” thick wood strips. We built up new stringers where required using white pine strips. The old frame smelled like poplar when we sanded it, so the original frame may have been poplar. We used Titebond III glue. It is thinner than Titebond II glue and gives longer working time. We also soaked the wood strips in hot water prior to gluing so that they would bend easier. We left the clamps on for a day or so until the repairs dried. After a paint job, its ready to recover.

Hood ready to recover.
